Peer Approval
Companies make advertisements which show products as something which will make you more popular amongst your friends and make it seem that you will be approved of by friends if you use the product. They can also make you think you will lose friends if you don't use the product which convinces you to buy the product even more.

Style - Dramatic
A dramatic advert is an advert which tells a story that keeps viewers on edge and keeps them watching to see what happens next. These adverts keep the audience's attention for the entire advert and makes them think deeper about the product being advertised, they are also usually quite long so that it gives the viewer more time to realise what's being advertised and think about it. The Lynx Attract advert is a good example, for the majority of the advert it's a police woman chasing a burglar, the audience think she is eventually going to catch him and then something is going to happen so they continue to watch, then the advert takes a twist ending because the audience have been fixed on it.
Style - Parodic
A parodic advert basically makes fun of a TV show, film or exsisting advert and are supposed to be humorous whilst advertising the product. Successful ones are usually very memorable and have a distinctive feature which is pointed out by people across the UK whilst the advert is on TV, this will make the product far more successful if the advert is memorable. The Honda CR-V is a good parodic advert, it makes fun of the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" which is a successful film from the 80's which people are likely to recognise and find it funny if they've seen it.
Advertising Techniques 2
Create a Character
This technique adds interest to your advert and creates a story for the audience to follow, which keeps them watching the advert. It could be an actor playing someone, an animated character or someone who is real, either dead or alive and is a bit of an icon. The character needs to be interesting to keep the audience hooked on the advert and must have different characteristics of normal people to be more exciting. The character helps sell the product better because it shows that the product stands out from the rest because the character does.
The Compare the Meerkat adverts created the character of the Meerkat who is different to a lot of characters and has unusual characteristics to keep the audience interested in him and the product that is being advertised.

Celebrity Endorsement
Some products are advertised by a certain celebrity who is popular with the target audience of the product. That celebrity soon becomes an icon for that particular product and is used in all their other adverts. Celebrity endorsement makes the audience believe that the product will give them characteristics of the celebrity and make them more like the celebrity.
The l'oreal advert uses Cheryl Cole to advertise the hair product by making the audience believe they will have hair like Cheryl Cole if they use L'oreal.
